Phone attendance apps: 7 questions to ask before choosing

3 min read

Search “attendance app” and you get dozens of results. Every one has a clock-in button; the differences show after a few months. Here are 7 questions to ask before choosing.

1. How does it verify staff are at work?

By GPS radius or the shop’s Wi-Fi. Can a home router with the same name pass? Can someone log in as a colleague on their own phone?

2. Does it track location all the time?

A privacy-respecting app reads location only at clock-in.

3. Where does the data go?

It should feed the rota (who is late) and payroll (days and overtime), not just an hours export.

4. What about missed clock-ins?

Staff should be able to request a correction for a manager to approve.

5. iPhone, Android and computer?

Your team uses all kinds of phones; managers need a big screen for monthly rotas and payroll.

6. What do staff see?

Their shifts, days worked, leave left, estimated pay and request status.

7. Can you try it first?

Try the full feature set with your own shop’s data for at least a week.
